God of dice. Not of luck or anything; just dice.

Completely aside from whatever ongoing campaign games I may be in, I usually run one-shots of my game It Came From Somewhere Else for big holidays, open to anyone who’s interested. Halloween, obviously, Xmas/NYE, Valentine’s Day, my b-day, etc.

Do any of the rest of you do something similar?

While I have nothing against minis-and-maps games, I’ve almost always played theatre-of-the-mind style. Largely because minis are expensive & I couldn’t afford them growing up.

Which style of roleplaying do you prefer?

@wendypalmer
“Cottage in the forest” vs “cabin in the woods”. One is a cozy get-away and the other means you gonna die.

It wouldn’t be the holidays without a little bit of drama and while our website was down temporarily, we’re back up and running now. Check out our latest blog post!
Happy New Year!

@398w okay, if your youngest is still learning to read, I bet they are still learning basic math. You can either use rolling the dice as a quick exercise in counting/adding or give fixed numbers on their cards, depending on what’s more appropriate. Also see if you can find pictures for any special moves or spells. Like a lightning bolt for an electric spell or a swinging sword for a melee attack. Makes it easier for them to keep track of what does what.
@398w As the others have said, pick a system you already know. How old are the kids? If they’re young enough that you think the full complement of rules might be confusing or daunting, try giving them notecards for what they can do. If they’re playing a caster, give them a notecard for each spell. If they’re a fighter, give them a notecard for any special attacks they have. Give them a notecard for combat in general (roll initiative, you can do this this or this in your turn, etc.)

Happy Solstice & Sol Invictus!

Well, I have to admit that Dapper Bear didn’t post much on Twitter, but we’re moving permanently to here. The writing is on the wall over there and things are not going to get worse.

Also, we’re going to release a new game by the end of the year! Hope you like tense horror!

Happy Holidays!

@Canageek regarding the original Alternity/Star*Drive system, they had the most astounding & detailed world building and sourcebooks, but I get like the rules/mechanics themselves were nearly unplayable. I still have all those sourcebooks, though, for use in other games.
