I'm a chill dude looking for interesting conversations around game development, drawing, writing, gardening and science.

I dislike religion, jerks, fascists and conservative attitudes.

(THREAD)

We've had
* the moral panic in the 60s and 80s where Rock 'n Roll and later Metal were supposed to corrupt everyone,
* the satanic panic in the 90s where conservatives dreamed up satanic mass and even invented "regression therapy" to extract false witness statements from children,
* the video game panic in the 00s where video games were blamed for violence

But somehow in the 2010s, we seem to believe the delusions of conservatives. Can we finally go back making fun of them again?

Sorry in advance for not including alt text. This is just too lengthy and complex. I tried but gave up...
The cartoon is too valuable to not share...

The GOP is acting like the mob, trying to intimidate prosecutors and others from bringing Trump to justice. None of these actions have anything to do with valid congressional duties, this is purely weaponizing their offices and committees to protect Trump and the GOP, not the government or people of this country. The GOP is increasingly acting like a fascist party and there may be no turning back now for them. This must change how Democrats act and think about the GOP. They are no longer a partner in democracy or governing, they are now only a threat to democracy and our country and must be treated as such. Their legitimacy is gone!! They and their extremist supporters don't want democracy, they want power and control over all of the rest of us.

"What You Need To Know
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed a lawsuit against House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio in an effort to block congressional Republicans from interfering in his office's ongoing criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump

Bragg, in the filing, asked a judge to invalidate subpoenas that Jordan has or plans to issue as part of an investigation of Bragg's handling of the case, the first criminal prosecution of a former U.S. president

Trump pleaded not guilty last week to 34 felony counts related to alleged hush money payments made during his 2016 presidential campaign

The lawsuit is the latest escalation in the war of words between Bragg and House Republicans related to the Trump case; it comes one day after Jordan announced a hearing in New York for next week titled "Victims of Violent Crime in Manhattan" aimed at exploring Bragg's policies

According to the court filing, Bragg claims that House Republicans launched an "unprecedently brazen and unconstitutional attack" on his probe into Trump and accused them of a "transparent campaign to intimidate and attack" him.

Bragg, in the filing, asked a judge to invalidate subpoenas that Jordan has or plans to issue as part of an investigation of Bragg's handling of the case, the first criminal prosecution of a former U.S. president.

Trump pleaded not guilty last week to 34 felony counts related to alleged hush money payments made during his 2016 presidential campaign.

The lawsuit is the latest escalation in the war of words between Bragg and House Republicans related to the Trump case. Three House Republican committee chairs – Rep. Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wisc., the Chair of the House Administration Committee, and Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the Chair of the House Oversight Committee – sent a letter to Bragg last month seeking information about the case and slamming the probe as an “unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority.”

Bragg's office pushed back on that letter, charging that complying with such a request would “interfere with law enforcement” and would represent an “unlawful incursion into New York’s sovereignty." The Republican chairmen responded days later with a threat to subpoena Bragg.

“We believe that we now must consider whether Congress should take legislative action to protect former and/or current Presidents from politically motivated prosecutions by state and local officials, and if so, how those protections should be structured,” the chairs wrote in an eight-page letter. “Critically, due to your own actions, you are now in possession of information critical to this inquiry.”

“It is not appropriate for Congress to interfere with pending local investigations,” Bragg responded in a statement. “This unprecedented inquiry by federal elected officials into an ongoing matter serves only to hinder, disrupt and undermine the legitimate work of our dedicated prosecutors.”

In a Twitter post, Jordan accused Bragg of suing "to block congressional oversight when we ask questions about the federal funds they say they used to do it."

The lawsuit comes one day after Jordan announced a hearing in New York for next week titled "Victims of Violent Crime in Manhattan" aimed at exploring Bragg's policies.

The hearing “will examine how Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pro-crime, anti-victim policies have led to an increase in violent crime and a dangerous community for New York City residents,” according to a statement put out by the committee on Monday.

“Don’t be fooled, the House GOP is coming to the safest big city in America for a political stunt,” a spokesperson for Bragg said in a statement on Monday. “The hearing won’t engage in actual efforts to increase public safety, such as supporting national gun legislation and shutting down the iron pipeline,” a term used to describe the flow of guns from states with less-restrictive gun laws into New York, where gun restrictions are among the toughest in the nation..."

Fox and other right-wing media have been lying to their audiences for years. Anyone paying attention knows this. It is not news or information they are pushing, it is propaganda and manipulation. This is part of the reason so many vote against their own interests. How else could the GOP, with their actual policies that are not popular, win elections and hold office so they could do the bidding of their overlords, the obscenely wealthy? How else could less than 1% of the country, control so much of the policies in a "democracy?"

Tucker Carlson and Fox News Knew Election Fraud Claims Were Bogus – Mother Jones https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/02/carlson-ingraham-hannity-fox-news-election-lies/?utm_medium=email

"Tucker Carlson—the Fox News host who has made a wildly successful career out of pushing white nationalism on what is arguably the most racist show on television—is an entertainer, not a reporter. Carlson’s lawyers said as much when he was accused of slander for falsely claiming that Stormy Daniels had extorted President Trump. As NPR reported in 2020, US District Judge wrote, citing the argument put forth by Carlson’s defense team:

The “‘general tenor’ of the show should then inform a viewer that [Carlson] is not ‘stating actual facts’ about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in ‘exaggeration’ and ‘non-literal commentary.'”

She wrote: “Fox persuasively argues, that given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism’ about the statement he makes.”

But the problem with that logic is that Fox News viewers aren’t reasonable—and Carlson knows it. In fact, Carlson appears to prey on his viewers’ inability to determine fact from fiction.

A legal filing released last night by Dominion Voting Systems, which is suing the network for defamation, reveals how Carlson deliberately misled viewers about claims of fraud during the 2020 election. Here, per the New York Times, he and Fox co-star Laura Ingraham discuss election fraud proponents Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani:

“Sidney Powell is lying by the way. I caught her. It’s insane,” Mr. Carlson wrote to Ms. Ingraham on Nov. 18, 2020.

Ms. Ingraham responded: “Sidney is a complete nut. No one will work with her. Ditto with Rudy.”

Mr. Carlson continued, “Our viewers are good people and they believe it,” he added, making clear that he did not.

Evidence that Carlson knew that the election claims were lies abounds in the legal filing. Just take a look at what he told Powell on Nov. 17:

You keep telling our viewers that millions of votes were changed by the software. I hope you will prove that very soon. You’ve convinced them that Trump will win. If you don’t have conclusive evidence of fraud at that scale, it’s a cruel and reckless thing to keep saying

But when Fox reporter Jacqui Heinrich tweeted on Nov. 12 that, “there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised,” newly released text messages show that Carlson exploded, telling Sean Hannity:

Please get her fired. Seriously…What the fuck? I’m actually shocked…It needs to stop immediately , like tonight. It’s measurably hurting the company. The stock price is down. Not a joke.

Carlson was far from alone in ginning up the false narrative of election fraud while privately disavowing it. Here are a few other outrageous moments that have emerged this week:

Tommy Firth, Laura Ingraham’s producer, on Nov. 12: “This dominion shit is goingto give me a fucking aneurysm—as many times as I’ve told Laura it’s bs, she sees shit posters and trump tweeting about it—.” The rest of Firth’s comments have been redacted from the filing.
Rupert Murdoch, Chairman of the Fox Corporation, referring to a Nov. 19 press conference in which Rudy Giuliani claimed that Dominion voting machines had been rigged by Hugo Chávez in Venezuela: “Really crazy stuff. And damaging.”
Suzanne Scott, Fox News CEO, regarding Fox’s airing of Giuliani’s and Powell’s Nov. 19 press conference: “The audience feels like we crapped on [them] and we have damaged their trust and belief in us…We can fix this but we cannot smirk at our viewers any longer.”

The worst people on Fox News knew election fraud claims were bogus

Carlson. Ingraham. Hannity. They all privately condemned the election lies, an explosive legal filing shows.
