texture-hunting at the botanic gardens

A couldn't resist picking up a pachanoi at the garden store six weeks ago because it was showing signs of forming buds.

The first flower opened yesterday but it rained really hard and I couldn't collect any pollen. Thankfully, the second (and only other) flower opened up tonight and I was able to get some.

about 4 days ago i had this incredibly stupid musical idea and it keep hearing it in my head. it won't go away

so i've had to actually create it

I think my talk with Natalie at ElixirConf went ok! Now I can enjoy the rest.

You know those really annoying websites that ask you to fill out a form but they won’t let you paste? So you have to (for example) carefully type a long bank account number by hand instead of just pasting it?

Turns out there are browser extensions that can prevent specified sites from turning off paste.

In Chrome: “Don't F*** With Paste,” by Jacob Swanner. (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dont-f-with-paste/nkgllhigpcljnhoakjkgaieabnkmgdkb)

In Firefox: “Don't Fuck With Paste,” by Aaron R, based on the Chrome extension. (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/don-t-fuck-with-paste/)

It’s kind of sad watching chunks of Fedi having to relearn lessons from the 90’s like “running a community website is hard, and the ‘community’ part is harder than the ‘website’ part”

And “any entitled, demanding users in the community will tend to rapidly push the people donating their time and money to run the site to just pack up and quit”

Maybe don’t be a dick to your instance admins and mods — when it’s not worth it to run a community as a volunteer, corps end up doing it for profit, and we’ve already seen how that pans out
