We are the Council for the Northern Caving Community.

The CNCC is the regional council of the British Caving Association for northern England and Scotland, and the representative body for cavers and caving clubs in these regions. We work with landowners to achieve greater access for cavers, as well as providing resin anchor placement, conservation coordination and training workshops.

📣 It's AGM time! This Saturday at 10am in Clapham Village Hall.

Everyone is welcome to attend and we'd love to see representation from all parts of the caving community. You don't have to be part of a club to come along and be involved.

Agenda and reports are on the website: https://cncc.org.uk/meetings

We should be done around lunch time so you can still get underground after. 😍

You can also join online or by phone. For the link, please email [email protected]

One of our team took a photo of this artwork at Bentham station... as well as being a unique and evocative piece of artwork, it's great to see the caves of Ingleborough getting a call-out. We know some groups including students coming from Leeds and York still occasionally go caving by train, to Gaping Gill from Clapham Station 😊

Great work by our volunteers to reinstate and improve the various flagstones and bridges from Masongill Lane towards Ireby Fell Caverns.

We're pleased to launch our training workshop catalogue for spring/summer 2026. Our mailing list subscribers have already had first pick of places, but still plenty of availability on workshops covering beginner and intermediate SRT, rescue, pull through techniques, geology and more. Spaces likely to go quickly!

⚠️ Warning - Valley Entrance in-situ ropes ⚠️

We have received a warning that the in-situ ropes from the Roof Tunnel to Kingsdale Master Cave in Valley Entrance are in a particularly dangerous condition, being worn to the core in places.

Keep an eye on the UK Caving post for updates...

CNCC Trainers moderation day.

Every year, our team of CNCC trainers give up a day of their time to get together. This important event allows us to ensure consistent delivery of all our training workshops, and to stay abreast of developments in equipment and techniques. We'd like to thank our trainers (Ian, Mark, Jo, Helen and Sam) for giving up their day to help make CNCC's workshops even better. 🤩

CaveMaps coming to CNCC soon 😍

For many years CaveMaps.org has been the go-to place for online cave surveys in our region. We are pleased to announce that this site will transition to CNCC hosting where it will be modernised and integrated with our existing cave database. Watch out for more news later in the year.
