Not sure how to get the word out more widely, but I recently had a student interview at UGA in engineering and she experienced the absolutely worst kind of sexism, tokenism, and unprofessional behavior. I know academic job openings are something of a lottery any given year, but I will never send a student that way ever again.
The case of http://civictech.ca/ shows that understanding #CivicTech means to look beyond the technical artifacts. Civic Tech is a social and participatory practice for making technologies that creates alternative modes of tech development and new opportunities for experimentation and learning. As a result, it can reconfigure the roles of democratic participants.
Very big implications to finding (2 studies, in London & Paris) that woman cyclists get killed more than men because they wait for signal to start across intersection.
This is surely true for pedestrians too, since geometry is the same.
Implies that using marked crosswalk & obeying signal is often more dangerous than violating law. 1/2

Is cycling safe? In many cases, the answer is no.

Researcher Anne Lusk explains the risks bicyclists face and how we can mitigate them.
