CRISPR cuts tree flowering times from a decade to mere months

Selective breeding of plants can help give them new beneficial traits, but trees have a frustratingly long reproductive cycle. Now, scientists at the University of Georgia have used CRISPR gene-editing to make poplar trees flower within months rather than a decade.

The USPS fleet is easily one of the best fits for EVs: Predictable routes, predictable miles, easy to schedule/coordinate charging, and constant stop and go with low speeds, which is perfect for regenerative braking (sends power back to the battery.)

This will have a positive impact on climate change, and reduce air pollution, noise pollution, and save money in the long run on fuel and maintenance.

Biden (and Podesta)- getting it done again. This is what a desire to govern and make things better can result in - progress. A willingness to cooperate and negotiate is crucial, of course.

We started 1st CEN transformation in Dec ‘21, saw flowers in Apr ’22, repeated and stacked traits by multiplex editing, cumulating in a pub in <2 years for #flowering traits that used to take decades to study.

A curious side project made possible by #CRISPR. Practical application is still a ways off, but at least experimental iteration for reproductive trait improvement in poplar will take only years rather than decades. #breeding
