The uncomfortable truth about record high immigration levels, rents and inflation

High rents are driving our inflation because of record levels of immigration, and few appear willing to confront the problem. But this is not — and should not — be an argument about multiculturalism, race or diversity, writes Ian Verrender.

@charliebell or, and hear me out, Labor absolutely ballsed it up by: refusing simple requests from stakeholders, avoided questions, and played the same "small target" politics games that won them the election.

Timid governments have no place running referenda; this Labor government has no place running a bloody bake sale

Perhaps the OAM should be renamed to OWAM to reflect more honestly which people most Australians respect.

I fully support and respect Shane Howard

Goanna frontman Shane Howard returns Order of Australia medal in response to referendum result

The legendary singer-songwriter has written to the governor-general to say he no longer has faith that Australia will achieve meaningful truth-telling and justice with Indigenous Australians.

Consider this: every faith, every major sporting organisation, every trade union, literally hundreds of NGOs and not-for-profits, universities, major corporations and industry associations all endorsed a ‘yes’ vote on the weekend.

‘Yes’ reflected the rich breadth of Australia’s civic institutions, but their combined reach and resources were no match for the fear and division whipped up by the ragtag band of political grifters that gravitated around ‘no’.

The voices of division will keep winning unless we learn these hard lessons from the referendum

The Saturday Paper's piece by Rick Morton on No voters in the #Voice referendum is pretty damn revealing. This quote, in particular, reveals the absolute fucking white fragility of it all:

“It’s particularly objectionable to white men, who already feel like they are not getting a say,” a person familiar with the research says. “There is this separate piece of work which shows that there is the same percentage, a group, largely men, largely white, old and young, who is like, ‘Oh you can’t say what you think anymore.’ So they are already feeling ‘Where is my voice?’ There is a lot of that.”

Like, are you *fucking* kidding me!?

Yes climate crises are heavily covered in most mainstream news outlets. Crisis compels viewers = ad revenue 🤷‍♀️

But In US & Australia “most TV coverage of the summer’s hellish weather did not even mention the words “climate change” or “climate crisis”, much less explain that the burning of oil, gas and coal is what’s driving that hellish weather” #media #climatechange #climatecrisis

The media need to cover the climate crisis as seriously as it covered Covid

With some exceptions, the news industry is still not responding to the true scale and danger of global heating
