Book burning?
If everything was digital in Hitler's 1930s Germany, this is what his book burning would have looked like: deletion of data, removal of websites, retraction of scientific studies, censorship of words like "equity," "diversity," "climate change."

"Oh, but Jason, the research shows that LLMs improve developer productivity". Firstly, no, it doesn't. It shows that LLMs can generate code for problems they've been trained on. And *independent* research (i.e., not paid for by companies selling Gen A.I.) shows no discernible gains worth mentioning.

And secondly, many teams I see using Copilot etc are *so* inefficient in their working practices, there are much, much bigger wins to be had without burning the planet.

As much as I despise Musk for so many things, and as much as his Starlink satellites are ruining astronomy and creating vast space-junk hazards, he's only partly to blame.

The absolute refusal of government to see what was happening, and stop it before it was too late, is the bigger problem.

And that continued refusal to lift a finger is encouraging orders of magnitude more satellite launches by Musk and other space grabbers.

It's insane, and we will regret it, probably too late.

I made a fun new video about playing Pokémon Go in Scuol, Switzerland! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3plPXHbVjk #PokemonGo #Scuol #Urbanism #PokémonGo

The Hague has become the first city in the world to pass a law banning advertisements promoting fossil fuel products and climate-busting services.

Legislation passed on Thursday spells the end of publicly and privately funded advertising for petrol and diesel, aviation and cruise ships in the streets of the Dutch city.

My beliefs are simple, and hardly radical: Libraries are critical infrastructure. Access to information is a human right. When you buy a book you should truly own it. When a library buys a book, they should be able to lend it. Readers should be able to read without any third parties spying over their shoulders, or preventing them from accessing the materials they have legally obtained.

Taylor Swift's "Childless Cat Lady" signature isn't just a funny joke.

It exposes what MAGA men fear most: That women no longer have to care about their opinion.

There are 42 states where you can register to vote online, these are the ones where you can't:

Arkansas
Mississippi
Montana
New Hampshire
North Dakota
South Dakota
Texas
Wyoming

If you've seen websites suggesting that you can register online in those states, that is a voter suppression technique, specifically targeting younger voters who are much more likely to vote progressively. If you live in any of these states, make sure you can vote, it usually must be done by mail or in person.
