Anybody know of a non-US equivalent to MailRoute? (A thing you can throw in front of your own hosted mail service to provide some availability/reliability?)
Some guy in an orange shirt walking around Brunswick, asking Asian-looking people if they’re Chinese, and then screaming “Fuck off” directly into their faces (regardless of whether they’re Chinese or not.) Was screaming all the way through Barkly Square, and we last saw him on the south side of Sydney Road where he’d just barged into the Green Refectory to scream at a couple of women in the front of the shop.
Just want to quietly rage about how infuriating it is for me to receive mail at my parents-in-law's address in Japan. Because my in-laws' block is subdivided, the house number is shared with five or six other houses & apartments. Couriers usually look at the name on the door to know which house to take stuff to.
My name is on the door, but in romaji (English/latin characters) — and in a slightly cursive font at that. Whenever I get mail addressed to me in katakana (phonetic Japanese alphabet used mostly for foreign loan words) it's a crapshoot as to whether it actually arrives.
My guess is they struggle to read the name because of the font? Or they look at the other Japanese names on the door and make a split-second judgement to be like “yeah this one doesn't match [Japanese last name]” and don't even read the name? Or they can't match the romaji with the katakana 宛先？
Any advice or general comiserations from non-Japanese-named short-or-long-term-Japan-residents would be appreciated.
