On Savage Shores: How Indigenous Americans Discovered Europe (here with bonus cat) is currently a bargain £2.99 on Kindle! Not much for ten years’ work. (You don’t get the cat. Sorry.) https://amzn.eu/d/6QQ8muj

This is GENIUS. “Biological reality isn’t everything, says woman who wrote a book about how biological reality matters.” You couldn’t make it up.
Speculative non-fiction is an important technique for recovering unheard voices, but it sounds like the author of Say Anarcha may have overstepped the boundaries of evidence & sensitivity. Definitely worth a read for anyone interested in the book. https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adi4137

Dropping into Mastodon to make sure my #historidon friends know that last night Lois Banner made unequivocally racist remarks at last night’s plenary of the Berkshire Conference (of which she was a founder). I was reminded recently that friends like @historianess might be out of the horrifying loop…

NB She was sharing the stage with several remarkable Black scholars at the time, who spoke eloquently against her (as did many others). But they shouldn’t have had to.

There are still tickets for my event

this Sunday. Please do come!😊 I've been preparing a talk with lovely pictures of Indigenous travellers plus this tragic-but-tricky-to-decipher source, & I would love to share it with as many people as possible! https://oxfordliteraryfestival.org/literature-events/2023/april-2/on-savage-shores-how-indigenous-americans-discovered-europe?fbclid=IwAR00bKIKY2Kj3swhA1WNuVh-UkHSPKvDmwKHK96gZFlp-l8sbFd6souPTjE #OnSavageShores

Shamelessly stolen from reddit, but an important message to share.

I'm very pleased to say that my dear friends Leila Blackbird and Julia McClure (who I don't think are #histodons?) and I have a roundtable coming up on 'Shades of Unfreedom: Indigenous Enslavement and Forced Labour' this coming Tuesday 7th Feb. It's pitched at a university seminar level, but is free and online and all are welcome. Sign up here!
