somehow @captbaritone revived this Winamp 5 skin I made 21 years ago
botsin.space shut down and took the Winamp Skins bot with it. Can anyone point me to a good instance for running such a bot? I think it's time to bring the bot back.
@adamlinder @winampskins The botsin.space instance shut down.

5. Search. Would be interesting to see if OCR could find anything. Or maybe an LLM? Could also extract metadata like are they animated? Which sites did they come from? Alt text from the site they were extracted from?

@booters Unsolicited suggestions (the site is already great, but just some ideas to improve it if you or someone else find them interesting):

1. More graceful image loading
2. Infinite scroll
3. Potentially reencode the images losslessly for smaller size (could be controversial)
4. Some kind of ranking algorithm (would need some kind of feedback to inform that, Mastodon bot?)
...

@booters I wrote a blog post about it which (given that you put together something similar) you might also appreciate: https://jordaneldredge.com/blog/winamp-skin-musuem/

Thoughts on what I think made the Winamp Skin Musuem successful.

@booters This is so good! I worked on a similar project https://skins.webamp.org and love seeing projects in this style. Great work here!

@samplereality @darius @1994clipart Good context. Currently we have a binary review process for marking skins as eligible for the bot (to exclude NSFW or low effort ones).

This is done in Discord by a small group of trusted individuals. Could support adding descriptions there, but not sure if there's interest.

I wrote up a note on how the bot works/evolved if anyone in this tread is interested: https://jordaneldredge.com/blog/building-the-winampskins-twitter-bot/

Does anyone with access to ChatGPT-4 want to try asking it to write alt text for a screenshot of a Winamp skin? For example, this one by @luigihann?

Could be huge for improving accessibility and search for the Winamp Skin Museum.
