Can someone well-versed in art criticism explain to me how Roy Lichtenstein's pop art series isn't just plagiarism?

Went to a No Kings protest that was only supposed to be in a park. We felt useless standing around but eventually a march starts which is great but then the protest leaders start telling people to stay on the sidewalk

So my wife and I and some others start marching in the road and blocking traffic

Eventually we had other protestors yelling at us to get on the sidewalk and that we were going to "give the police an excuse"

It's like the whole goal of the protest was to not upset anyone?
