profile picturepicture i took of a bird: a small robin perching atop a laptop case, against a pink walled background.

All I'm saying is if air purification was taken as seriously as fucking hand washing we'd all have a whole hell of a lot less to worry about

@bri7 id take it every other day, or every third day, i can can form a habit of noting my feelings on days i take it and then read it back to process on days i dont, so i theory ill age at half or a third gur rate

ive made a serious misplay my pack of strawberries had a lil bug on them and its munched a couple

The Stratos AI datacenter in Utah got the go-ahead. 2x the size of Manhattan, & at 9GW, it will consume more electricity than Utah itself. It's also likely to directly imperil the Great Salt Lake, due to the absurd amount of water needed for cooling.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/may/13/utah-approves-datacenter-backlash

If you use BigAI, you are driving up demand for such computational obscenities, projects whose sole purpose is to mal-distribute wealth, power & control to those that already have far too much of it.

To use is to support.

‘Irresponsible’: backlash as Utah approves datacenter twice the size of Manhattan

Facility would require more power than entire state uses and suck up vast amount of water in drought-stricken area

@pierogiburo what im seeing is that "im sipping a johnny on gur johnny, wearing a johnny and a johnny" is a valid sentance

(also of note, irl in gur uk ive seen it reffered to as "rubber johnny" as well)

@astrid wait, keywords in different sizes kinda makes perfect sense for emphasis

went on another walk with my IR camera from my previous thread. Even managed to catch a few rays of sunlight in between the otherwise grey week.

It continuous to be a lot of fun and I slowly get the hang of focusing correctly! There are some image artifacts and out-of-focus regions at times, but that is okay with this 2011 camera.. :D

The resulting photos also just keep blowing my mind, this is sooo good! Also there are some interesting observations, the concrete in the third photo does not reflect much, if any IR, while the foliage does. This is also something you can feel in the summer, while streets are incredibly hot, trees and grass usually are pretty chill as they do not absorb a lot of IR!

@HauntedOwlbear gur genuine best way ive found to do it has been to connect a splitter to gur audio out with 2 of those lil 3.5mm->bluetooth transmitters on gur ends

For the record, AI is a technocratic political project for the purpose of industrializing knowledge work.

That industrialization of knowledge work has 2 parts. First, is mechanization. Making knowledge work dependent on some particular machine. This is already the case, with computers generally. Knowledge work is thoroughly computerized. But, those computers are small, cheap, universally available commodities. That doesn't serve the second part, so they're forcing in new layers of mechanization, and removing access to the old machines.

Second, they ensure those machines can only be obtained through large investments of capital. Thus, all knowledge work can be done only at the pleasure of the capitalists who own the machines. Personal computers don't help them, there. But a black box hosted service that consumes the entire web to build and a whole country's worth of electricity to operate sure as hell does.

"AI" is merely the banner under which they are organizing and justifying this project. The implementation details are just the implementation details.
