random n00by question: say that i have a key card and already determined that it's not NFC. what's the easiest way to figure out what protocol it is using? assuming it is passive RFID, is there a DIY way to read it (like with an SDR)?
Has the lag been fixed yet? Looks like it might have been.

Mastodon's federation introduces UX challenges.

One that worries me a lot is about message forgery. Anyone can forge a twoot, even cross-server.

Whereas Twitter Inc might be trustworthy enough to not forge transcripts. Anyone can run a Mastodon server and might want to abuse it to influence people (see Russian troll campaigns).

Should Mastodon "home servers" cryptographically sign updates? Should there be end-to-end signatures? Anyone has thoughts on this?

Can we just shun people in infosec who genuinely consider Sun Tzu's quotes somehow applicable to the industry? I mean, the guy was an Iron Age military general who was born millennia before steam power was a twinkle in someone's eye. His era's proudest inventions were the quern and potter's wheel. Platitudes about knowing oneself are nice, but about as meaningful as a Deepak Chopra quote.
It's nice and quiet here. The black background is also a huge improvement over Twitter's blindingly white background.
