I just got a USB microscope and now I can’t stop magnifying things.
It can focus on a broad range of distances, but the standard scale (with its plastic ring touching the surface of the object) can fill a 1600px wide image with an area just over 5mm across.
According to my calculations it’s the equivalent of ~7,500 PPI. It’s great for looking at microscopic details of type rendered with various technologies.
It was also surprisingly cheap: less than $34 with shipping.

My wife & I flew to Kansas City for the #NWSL women’s soccer championship but our hotel canceled our reservation and we ended up staying at another place on the Missouri side.
To kill time before tonight’s 7pm game we might go see Wicked since we’re not in Kansas anymore.
Look who’s a rock star! So proud of Sheryl Kaskowitz for having A CHANCE TO HARMONIZE named one of Pitchfork’s Best Music Books of 2024. She’s in excellent company (and I think this means I’m best friends with Ad-Rock now)
