@caseynewton great article Casey! I did try it during the first week but stopped when they implement the wide area EU block. As a frequent traveler, everytime I travel to Europe the app becomes unresponsive, it is too disruptive so I stopped using it.

#nba monty williams fired

"Williams had been the coach with the fifth-longest tenure with his current team entering Saturday — just four years. Gregg Popovich has been coach in San Antonio since 1996, Erik Spoelstra in Miami since 2008, Steve Kerr in Golden State since 2014 and Michael Malone in Denver since 2015."

4 years was the fifth longest tenure - sorry but that's just plain stupid

Ja Morant flashing a gun on IG again after being suspended for doing the exact same thing 2 months ago. I guess he didn't learn much from it.

@caseynewton Great pod but now can you talk about I/O without mentioning ducks with lips Casey! I still have nightmares about it 😂

Game 1 of the second round goes to the Los Angeles @Lakers as they take a 1-0 series lead over the Warriors 117-112.

Great episode, the part about the AI Sims are fascinating, it basically prove Yuval Harari's gossip theory in Sapien where it claims that gossip, based on judgments, began our rule of the planet. Before we began gossiping with other Homo sapiens, we were merely another mammal in the food chain.
It's Hard Fork Friday! This week on the show, Bellingcat's Aric Toler on tracking down the Discord leaker. PLUS: an unfortunate series of events at Tw*tt*r, and I learn a valuable new Google Docs skill https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/14/podcasts/hard-fork-discord-leaker.html
Inside the Hunt for the Discord Leaker, and Twitter Chaos Updates

How Times journalists tracked down the alleged leaker of top secret military intelligence.

The New York Times

I had hoped by now that the media would have begun to divorce Twitter. Instead, some journalists are doubling down.

Some thoughts on why:

Why journalists can't quit Twitter

The media should be building alternatives. Instead, some are doubling down

Barbara Walters shattered all the ceilings to cheer and ire

In 1965, Gloria Steinem said of Walters "The shift from the old 'Today Girl'—who was usually a coffee-server and amiable lightweight—to Barbara Walters is the television industry's change of attitude in microcosm"

And a better (accidental) tribute would come from Walter Cronkite who found Walters' salary "sickening.”

Barbara Walters was worth every penny she earned and more

She was 93 when she passed away in her New York home today.
