How much value do all our datasets, our data assets, provide? By and large, there is very little data – or systematic collection of data – on dataset usage. There’s no easy way to find all the users of a dataset and to see how the data has been used, or what research it may have contributed to.
In the US, a small group of federal statistical agencies have taken steps to address this problem, using a platform called Democratizing Data.
