The timing of having Meta dropping encrypted chats on Instagram is...interesting.

Hold on…that was an entirely fictional story?

Is there some part of it that was based on real people?

I was won over by this distinction from another senior some years ago. I think he said…

“Developers build things. Engineers build them and keep them running.”

I like the linguistic point from a standpoint of emphasizing a long term responsibility.

I remember feeling the same way about Slicehost back in the day after Rackspace acquired them. Loved Slicehost. Not too long after though, Digital Ocean appeared with everything I loved about Slicehost and has kept getting better ever since.

I feel like that's Fly.io now. They took all of the great things about Heroku but also dramatically improved and added new capabilities...while improving on pricing, particularly for lower traffic stuff. Love Fly.

At scale, it limits the supply of available homes to buy which increases the prices.

When we constantly read stories about people not being able to afford homes today, it’s all driven by pure supply and demand. When a firehose of money gets aimed at any aspect of the economy everything gets more expensive.

This is from institutional investors. Sometimes it’s government when we are talking about the price of education or healthcare for example.

About 2 miles from my house, a housing development recently went up.

No homes for sale. Rent only.

Stuff like that is becoming a big problem.
