Learning fixes without looking everything up or having the answer given outright
How do you guys actually learn how to fix certain things? Its mind boggling how one can visit a forum and there’s people saying “oh yeah just run -c xhhkrk ()<>[] bbbhjl and that will fix your sound issue” Like WHERE do you even start? I hate having to look things up all the time when everyone else on windows “just works”. Copying commands off forums endlessly doesn’t really help you learn. Example, installed cachyos on an older laptop, but sound and screen dimming will not work. I have no ides where to even begin with that. I feel like a windows user could at least poke around control panel and probably fix the issue but its way harder with linux. I have had luck with almost everything working with mint on my desktop (except vr, oculus is a nighmare to get working) and have been running that about a year. If I had to set it all up again id have to re look up everything I forgot since then… If there was something like man but easier to parse through, that would be immensely helpful. Like for my sound issue, if there was a better organized manual that I could look under “sound” and see the inner workings laid out and common issues, thats what we need. Otherwise people are going to be terrified of linux because its so hard.
Buy the component cable
I dont need to tell anyone here this, but if youre on the fence about that spendy component cable, GET IT. In my situation, I got it for my Model 1 genesis, plugged it into my 1 smaller crt with component, and WOW. My entire life id only used composite on everything. Usually our tvs didnt have any other inputs. I tested s video on my projector tv (actually a very nice one with good color and no washout) with the ps1, and it looks pretty darn good, but this genesis looks arcade quality. I tried out the Williams game cart on it to see and the games are SO crisp and clear. Sadly my only tv with component is the smaller crt and the Wega. However I do have a tink 2x pro, but I prefer the crt right now. I unfortunately got an s video cable for my ps2 as well before I knew theyre not the best way to go, but am ordering a component cable for it now too.
Sell n64 carts?
Just got my first everdrive, figure ill never need these carts and at the outrageous prices they are going for, would you sell or hold onto them? I only have like 10 and only a couple are rarer ones. I have a ton of game systems and stuff in general and im not into collecting things that dont serve a function. If they sit on the shelf there’s no point to having them. But I can hold onto em for 10 more years if theyre all gonna shoot up to 50 bucks each, or has the craze died now?
GB and GBC
I had my mind blown yesterday, twice. First, at the local game store I saw one of my favorite childhood PC games: Jeff Gordon XS racing, but in Game Boy form! Had no idea it was ported to GB. Had to get it. Side note, XS racing is a killer game, sadly very few have heard of it, go play it! So it worked great in my OG game boy. Super fun but ofc not as good as the PC one. I decide to look the game up. Everything about it says gameboy color. It is NOT a gameboy color cartridge. However, it WILL play on a gameboy advance SP in color! So i learned there are some backward compatible GBC games. Also someone told me years back OG GB games dont work on an SP. Well, they do!! Just some fun weird facts!
Cannot get genesis cart to work
YSK your N64 shouldnt make noise..
Lets discuss the Smart brick
Best Bluetooth Adapter?
Looking for the best bluetooth adapter with Linux (Mint) compatibility…I got one now but it seems to have cutting out issues and doesn’t work well with some stuff (like a PS4 controller). Or maybe it’s just Linux bluetooth being terrible as usual? Has anyone had luck with different dongles? (No scamazon links please)
How many of you are using everdrive?
I dont have any everdrive carts yet, but as prices are going to keep going up on real carts, ill probably have to. It a bummer because I really enjoy the real games (just like i enjoy having my records and cds) but its just not worth what people are asking for some of these games, especially if they are at all sought after, forget about it. How is the ever drive experience ? Do they have an easy game browser built in? I find sometimes these type of things are annoying trying to find 1 game out of 1000 if it doesn start with “A” . This would likely be for n64/snes/genesis
