I think one of the biggest societal changes that would happen with fully autonomous humanoid robots is that people’s diets could become much more sane. Robots could garden and cook meals for hours every day. People could grow their own organic food and would be able to eat meals that are far healthier, tastier, and cheaper than what’s available today. Emissions from agriculture, shipping, and refrigeration would decrease and healthcare costs would decrease as well.
@marcoarment have you test driven any of the EVs from Hyundai or Kia? I would imagine the software experience would be not as good as Rivian but not necessarily bad.
Every time I use the Vision Pro all I can think is “is this a good way to use a computer?”
It would be really cool if Apple created an iPod with the same capabilities as the iPod nano but with today’s technology. It could have WiFi and Bluetooth, sync with Apple Music directly, and work with AirPods. Would it sell well? Probably not. But it would be fun.
I know Humane is where a bunch of Apple people went, but OpenAI feels much more like a kindred spirit with Apple than Humane does. They seem to have a similar approach with product and communications design.
I think the next Vision Pro will come out in 2025 and have an M5 chip.
The Magic Keyboard is nice but it does seem like a miss that they didn’t just create a case that would more fully turn the iPad into a notebook computer with a large battery under the keyboard to hold the weight of it down.
The idea of a humanoid robot is talked about as something very far off into the future, but in reality we’ve had functional humanoid robots for years. For example the Asimo robot was around in 2011. The big problem with these robots was software, but now we have pretty amazing AI.
Imagine if Apple used the billions in R&D for the Apple Car to instead make e-ink readers, printers, monitors, and WiFi systems.
You have to wonder how much better the Vision Pro’s hand and face tracking would be if Apple allowed the iPhone camera to also capture movements and facial expressions. It would certainly solve the “big mustache” problem. But could also just provide better reliability for hand tracking and realism for personas all around.
