@mrencyclopedia RSS has always been a train wreck throughout it's existence. The semantics has never been very well defined. But the biggest issue that I have with ID is that the identifier is somehow tied instance where it is hosted. That seems wrong to me, and seems solvable using fairly well understood crypto.
@danlyke Yeah running an instance appears to be a bit tedious, although I'm likely to at least consider it sometime in the future. I think I'll maintain two instances: one exclusively for ham radio @k6hx and @brainwagon. I'm not really happy with that but it seems to be reasonable. Oh, why the hell do we need the extra @ sign? What logic is that?
Okay, I now have a couple of different mastodon ids. If I understand mastodon correctly, the fact that I have @brainwagon does not (for instance) mean that if I move to @brainwagon, I'll be able to get it, or perhaps more annoyingly that someone else might grab it and create confusion. This profusion of instance supplier is apparently a sword which cuts both ways.
Sad. Looks like they aren't going to let me have an animated GIF as my avatar.
