I could not get my phone out of my pocket fast enough to take a photo of this heron standing at the waters edge, so close I could nearly touch it, but I still enjoy this image of it taking flight. The deep low-frequency whoosh created by its sizable wingspan had a startling intensity.
Happy Birthday to Dundee, 13 today.

Illustration by Maud Montgomery-Bjurhult (Sarimont) of an idealized Cairn Terrier.
#CairnTerrierI suddenly feel like we need a balloon lamp, though.
Not a sight you want to see when you look outside just as dinner is ready. Water main. Shout out to the water department workers who arrived promptly, dug a hole deep enough for a worker to disappear out of sight (when bent over), repaired it, backfilled the hole with fresh gravel, compacted it, and put the neighbors drip lines and river rock back in place such that it looked like nothing had even happened. Two hours, in the dark. I've probably taken that long just to replace a faucet.
Laptop, arm rest — Cairns are a versatile breed.

The owner turned away so briefly I was unable to spirit away this handsome lad. As the owner is our club's treasurer I'm afraid even a successful pup-napping would have been short-lived, alas.

#CairnTerriers generally do well with
#bagpipes. I suspect they respect and appreciate — and often share — the volume, crisp clarity, and piercing persistence of voice. Like a piper, a Cairn stands bold and ready.
