Daily Soundbath.
Samuel André.
Kyoto.

This track had a wonderful, slow beginning with sparse tones to introduce the characters in this performance. The track becomes more active when he uses the bow and other metal and wood mallets to play the bowls, creating stark, ripping tones to show the other side of metal bowls. The session was a roller coaster of loud and quiet, soft and hard sounds.

Fiona Pau. Hong Kong.

This short track is minimal with slow, isolated drones over a bed of distant construction. By now, the workers have all gotten back to work. I love the contrast of hard sounds under delicate tones.

Swami Arun. Singapore.

Swami pushes limits of the gongs. Using different mallets, objects, and movements he discovers the hidden 'possibilities' of the gong. He has an amazing control of sound, like a sculptor with clay, molding it into new shapes and experiences. This session left me with my mouth agape. I didn't know what I had just experienced.

Daily Soundbath

Sound Bath Sessions 247: Dennis Pasang Lama. #Taipei #Taiwan

Dennis's style is slow and precise. He strikes each bowl and lets it fade to silence, allowing you to listen to the entire life of each sound. Some of the bowls have inherent harmonics that modulate its sound, changing over time as they decay into silence.

Sound Bath Sessions 226: Missy Liu & Morrison Su. Taipei, Taiwan

We all met at 7pm at Missy's studio is in the Datong District of Taipei near Dihua Street. They usually play together so their style, mood, and personalities are perfectly matched. Each of them focused on their instruments as well as being mindful of the entire recording. Their improvisation had a great dialog, taking turns to create a new sound then playing with it to see where it would take them.

Sound Bath Sessions 182: Fei Jen Tsai. Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Fei's session was one of the most memorable recordings of the Sound Bath Sessions project. Everything was just.. right. We recorded in her small studio in Kaohsiung. It was a large carpeted open space with many bowls lining the walls. There were three setups already chosen for the recording. This was the one. This was the one that put me over. As if the world stopped just to hear her play.

Sound Bath Sessions 242: Siyeon Ham. Seoul, Korea.

https://insighttimer.com/sbsessions/guided-meditations/sound-bath-sessions-242-siyeon-ham

Siyeon was my last recording in Korea. She met me at Wonjong Station at around 9 pm, and we recorded at her apartment in a quiet neighborhood nearby. The room was small, so the sound was very direct and intimate. Siyeon played large quartz bowls and an ocean drum for her sessions. This session's ocean drum was just a beautiful bed of calming white noise.

Sound Bath Sessions 214: Sayuri Yanagawa. Tokyo, #japan.
https://insighttimer.com/sbsessions/guided-meditations/sound-bath-sessions-214-sayuri-yanagawa

Sayuri played 1 crystal bowl and 5 metal bowls for this piece. Her style is very minimal, slow, and steady urging you to listen beyond the space. It was as if her sound was the background to the sounds of life outside, not the other way around.
