Original home city is Grand Rapids MI. Grand Valley State U grad twice, '87 (Comp Sci) & '95 (Geology). Portland OR home since 8/2/2000. Cat dad since early '98. My tribe currently is 25. 17 formerly homeless kitties trapped by me. Rehoming never considered. 4 of my furry kids have left this reality. Miss them every day. The pain persists but I do my best to be the best dad. Vegetarian early '91. Vegan with my diet shortly after that then vegan as a way of life shortly after that.

My handsome boys Chaos and Cosmos having a wrestle/groom session on the windowsill for #Caturday. Being nearly five months old is a busy time for #kittens and multitasking between brotherly love and fratricidal frenzy is often needed.

Would like to know more about the 'cultivation system'. How the cells are obtained and the process of creating lab grown meat/fish is an essential detail. Stem cell biopsies and the use of fetal bovine syrum make lab grown beef absolutely not cruelty free. Just learning about lab grown fish but I'm skeptical. The cells of course are derived from fish. What then happens to the fish? I will never eat these lab grown products.

The clean meat industry is racing to ditch its reliance on foetal blood

No startup has managed to grow meat products in the lab without using an expensive serum derived from animal blood. That could be about to change

For vegans ethically opposed to animal companions something to think about. Shelters everywhere are at capacity with cats and dogs. Thousands of animals in shelters are killed just because they hadn't been adopted. Adoption saves lives. If you are able to please adopt a furry companion that needs you. And if you are able to trap/rescue homeless kitties that also saves lives. Spaying/neutering to prevent more homeless kittens and the trapped kitty will have a home and a much better life.

To anyone out there who has feline kids with kidney disease in addition to a targeted diet, subcutaneous fluid treatments (weekly for Allie, hopefully your vet doc has already recommended it for your babies) and this product can help successfully manage it.

All of it has worked well for Allie so far. She will be 19 on August 5.

....... low phosphorus and high moisture content. It's about her quality of life and sustaining her life. For all of my babies it's about their health and longevity. At this time I'm not willing to risk it with a diet dominated by vegan food.

It's unnatural for cats. Thousands of years as carnivores. It's what their bodies know and require. My oldest kid Allie has specific dietary needs because of her kidney disease. I've been able to keep it steady at stage 2 with what I've been doing (with vet consultation). Lower protein.....

Interesting and informative web post regarding cats and vegan diets. A kitty's health is about much more than the presence of taurine. There are numerous vegan cat food options out there. Research would be needed to determine if they are nutritionally complete and don't cause urinary tract problems. And of course our furry kids must want to eat the stuff. Commercially produced vegan cat food from what I see is also quite expensive. Not practical for my.... (1/2)

Vegan Cat Food and Vegan Cats: Weighing Risks & Rewards

Some cats manage to thrive on vegan cat food. But responsibily feeding your cat vegan demands substantial extra care, veterinary attention, and expense.

@ematts Vegetarian as of April 1 1991. Vegan diet shortly after that. Vegan as a way of life shortly after that, more than 30 years....after I figured out the non-food part of it. Wasn't nearly as easy then. My first kids, Virginia babies, Aiko and Kiko, needed homes. I was a vegan and AR activist (Virginia Beach area) at the time. Never tried to make them vegan. Cats are carnivores. When we accept the responsibility for their care (yes to that) we must do what is best for them.
@ematts Thanks for your kind message. My oldest child Allie is 18 + 9.5 months. Some health issues but vet care has helped her hopefully reach her 19th birthday. All of my trapped kids have adapted well to inside life including Obsidian. He was the rare older 100% wild kitty I trapped. Estimated to be 3 years old when I trapped him. Has not been an easy or smooth ride, helping him transition to inside life. He was in bad shape when I trapped him. He's super good now, loves inside life.
