The ethics and awkwardness of #nhsstrikes is a daily reality. I'm a trade unionist and wouldn't cross a picket line if my life depended on it. Most of the armtwisting going on around absent nurses or ambulances is cynical Tory propaganda. But I'm losing my sight and nearly a year has gone by for an appointment that should have taken 3 months. The blame for this lies squarely with the government, who are exploiting misery for political gain. Pay our NHS staff fairly and save the service!

If you are interested in perspectives on simple and sustainable living, then I highly recommend @Bearhouse's
"Radical Simple Living" podcast. I just binged all seven (so far) episodes.

Radical Simple Living

This is not a podcast about "how" to live simply, but "why" live simply. My aim is to show how the act of simple living can make your life, and the environment we all live in much better! We can all be homesteaders if we live in an appartement, a suburban house, or a rural plot!

@Seth123 There is one Mennonite congregation in the UK, from a different strand of my tradition. My profession, apart from writing, is church community work, which I've no option but to practice ecumenically. Such posts are scarce and frequently out of reach because I'm not ordained, or part of a member church of CTBI. Anglican Churches often exclude applicants like me through clauses in their job descriptions. Frankly I'm amply qualified, but haven't worked in this field for more than a year.
@jeff Rather ironic that this article sits there behind an FT firewall. I'm a newcomer here at mastodon but thoroughly enjoying a fresh ethos. I hope the soul of the platform survives and thrives.
@Seth123 Put yourself in my shoes. How is it possible for victims to raise historic issues of injustice with victors without appearing peevish or obscurantist? It may be 500 years ago, but impacts real people today. This is a very contemporary issue for me as a church lay worker. I'm quite happy to detail the discrimination I face.
Of course the counterblast sounds shrill and sour. But how should Anabaptists respond to Anglican retrospectives, like Andrew Shanks' call for honesty amongst ex-oppressors, when voices from to the left of the Via Media are still excluded and almost absent?
The Thirty-Nine Articles, incorporated in the book of Common Prayer, are a much repeated, if waspish, expression of the Anglican Via Media. Catholics & Anabaptists are lambasted with relish. Five hundred years on, the Articles no longer codify the burning of Mennonites at Smithfield, but CofE parishes still use the Articles & Churches Together in England membership, as an exclusionary gatekeeper in a still anti-Anabaptist job market. So much for ecumenism! #Anabaptism #Thirty-NineArticles.
@Jyoti I rather like having wiggly eyebrows! I'm another newcomer appreciating Mastodon.

I feel like Mastodon is a better fit for me than those Other Places.

It is chaotic. It is a raucous barrel of anarchists and furries and commies and queers and furry trans queer ancoms and then this layer of blissed-out academics wiggling their eyebrows and then journos vainly trying to find other journos and then someone who invented TCP/IP as a jape and then her friend who invented stereo and then Jeff Minter.

Why isn't the rest of the net like this?
