i hate how in modern game culture that people really want games to be updated regularly

Early access games? That's reasonable. Multiplayer games? That's fair. But I feel devs should take as long as they need to to update a game, or not update it at all if they think it shouldn't need anymore.

why hasn't tf2 shut down already
  • portal 64 got taken down because the dev used proprietary Nintendo binaries rather than using an open source sdk that they should have used in the first place

  • csgo s2 and tf2 s2 got taken down because s&box has no license for the use of the assets. This is also why facepunch doesn't want people porting valve assets over to s&box.

  • tf2c and open fortress both use leaked code which isn't under the source sdk license.

If you really want to make a fan project, use your own assets or use the source sdk (with no leaked code) or Gmod. Don't use proprietary libraries that could get Valve in trouble.

stop blaming valve for not allowing you to use their assets in your projects.
