More than Nostalgia

For many years, journalist Aron Lewin has been working with documentary photographer Tatiana C.C. Scott to record the stories behind longstanding shops and traders across Melbourne for the website Tales of Brick and Mortar (talesofbrickandmortar.com). Through written and visual storytelling, the project seeks to share and highlight the history behind these institutions, and provide a point for discussion about their social, architectural, economic and cultural impact within – and beyond – the local community. More than just nostalgia, these shops and people are vitally important as (among other things) a point of connection. But, if they close, that service is often lost, and it becomes much more difficult to document their history. We are looking forward to talking about the project, so come along! Please provide a gold coin donation for entry.

I have built myself an accidental cataloging fortress 😅
Only one week to go until ALIAVic’s drinks- GLAMRous people of Melbourne- come out and socialise 😊
More map sorting adventures. There are some incredible gems in this collection. I am sorting them by location (reflects how our members will use them) and I think I’ve invented a brand new workout- map hauling
@DLeeTalbot Victoria and Australia. It’s a pretty much complete collection of the vic inch to a mile maps and then a whole range of others from some very local ones to national topographic , geological, soil and quite a few ocean and relevant exploration maps. I’ve roughly sorted them and I’ll begin cataloging them in the next few weeks. They won’t be for loan but viewable in the library if you’d like to come and have a look 🙂
Half way through sorting an incredible map donation
A poster should be informative as well as colourful 😅 #LibraryPride
Horridus at Melbourne Museum literally awe inspiring. My favourite dinosaur has always been a triceratops- and six year old me who wanted to be a ‘dinosaur scientist’ was so delighted- actually 33 year old me was too 😁 it really is an incredible survival- 87% in tact and 67 million years old. I look forward to visiting it again. #horridusmelb
