@snk Unlike most of my colleagues I have very few meetings. Most weeks it's 2 - 4 hours.

CVE-2023-21036 / acropalypse is absolutely bonkers.

Apparently for 5+ years the cropping / editing tools for screenshots on Google Pixel phones was only overwriting the start of the screenshot PNG file, but not truncating.

All screenshots shared for the past 5+ years might have data recoverable from them. Demo available at https://acropalypse.app/

Google still hasn't communicated anything on this.

"Forcing employees to come to the office under the threat of discipline leads to disengagement, fear, and distrust"

The return to the office could be the real reason for the slump in productivity. Here’s the data to prove it

Productivity jumped as offices closed, and stayed high through 2021. When companies started mandating a return to the office, productivity dropped sharply.

@nedbat We should talk about that in a fortnight.

When I first came to the States I was surprised that people didn't understand that term, and am still surprised but can understand that people don't understand bi-weekly.

Take these layoff numbers in the tech industry with a pinch of salt. I'd say many of these companies hired too many people or their growth projections were over optimistic. That doesn't mean they won't use this as an excuse to layoff their longer term employees whom are paid more and keep the newbies.

>From its fiscal year-end in September 2019 to September 2022, Apple’s workforce grew by about 20% to approximately 164,000 full-time employees. Meanwhile, over roughly the same period, the employee count at Amazon doubled, Microsoft’s rose 53%, Google parent Alphabet Inc.’s increased 57% and Facebook owner Meta’s ballooned 94%.

@HalvarFlake Corporations talk about things like "loyalty" and "teamwork" but that's a one way street, they expect you to be loyal to them, they're not loyal to you.
