"Over the past decade, the 100,000th-ranked* artist on Spotify has seen their generated royalties multiply by over 10x – increasing from well under $600 in 2014 to almost $6,000 in 2024."

"The number of uploaders to Spotify, which is now nearly 12 million. "

ok so, if you are a Spotify 1%er you get $6k/yr. You need to be top 0.2% to earn a living. In 2024 that is 22,100 people.

And that assumes you're a single artist uploader, not a band, no manager, no label taking cuts. So you're probably seeing half of that IF you're very lucky.

So basically Spotify makes nothing for artists. As we knew already, but at least the data is public now.

If you think by graduating and getting a job all your worries and anxiety will come to an end you are wrong. You just start worrying about losing what you can lose.
