The something fucky is that is just centralized public-private key pairs. There’s no need for centralizing that under corporarions. Actually, you lose one of the big featues of public key cryptography.

Agree. But it’s “citizens” not civilians. “Civilians” are those that aren’t military. Civilians are everybody, police included.

“Rules for rulers” video from CGP Grey summarizes this nicely. The book it is based on should be mandatory reading.

If you dont want corpos to exploit it, you go with GPL. Then they are forced to share back.

That license looks like Creative Commons Non-Comercial, which is not an open source license.

When everybody uses AI to search, it becomes a closed system that holds all info. Doesn’t need to be productive, but it gatekeeps the knowledge that was free on the internet. It’s a self-reinforcing loop.

The BY-NC-SA 4.0 is not an open source license. This printer is not open source. Stop calling it. Even if they themselves call it that way, or “open”.

I’ve met face to face with the person pushing this in Google Summer Of Code mentors meetup Munich. It’s not open source.

NC - non commercial. Nobody is alowed to sell you the printer nor replacements. Yea you can print it yourself, for that 1% that has a printer.

Indeed. Looking forward to the new Valve headset, which is just a normal Arm pc with a linux distro. Given that they push for upstreaming, i have quite the hopes to just be able to install any linux arm distro in the future.
