Claire Voisin has just been awarded the Crafoord prize for 2024. https://www.insmi.cnrs.fr/en/cnrsinfo/claire-voisin-awarded-crafoord-prize-mathematics-2024

Voisin is a superb algebraic geometer and this award is well deserved; but she is also currently performing the herculean (and somewhat thankless) task of chairing the Program Committee for the 2026 ICM, and in her hands I am confident that the scientific program for the next congress will be excellent.

I've written a blog post at https://terrytao.wordpress.com/2023/11/18/formalizing-the-proof-of-pfr-in-lean4-using-blueprint-a-short-tour/ giving a "quick tour" of the #Lean4 + Blueprint combination used to formalize the proof of the PFR conjecture that I recently completed with Tim Gowers, Ben Green, and Freddie Manners.
Formalizing the proof of PFR in Lean4 using Blueprint: a short tour

Since the release of my preprint with Tim, Ben, and Freddie proving the Polynomial Freiman-Ruzsa (PFR) conjecture over $latex {\mathbb F}_2$, I (together with Yael Dillies and Bhavik Mehta) have st…

Really bummed that HBO Max didn't rebrand to:

First was a fantastic talk by @cfiesler on forecasting #AI harms at #SiliconFlatirons. The Black Mirror exercise discussed here is amazing, and I highly recommend the entire talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcbpT4ESTmA (2/5) #AIEthics

How about a little competition - show us your best AI-generated images of robot Mastodons 🐘

We might just use one of them as the Mascot for http://sigmoid.social :)

h/t @Riedl for the idea

I don't talk about job promotions very often, but this one deserves a little celebration. I just made L9 as an individual contributor on Google's engineering ladder, which means I've earned the privilege of referring to my role as "Distinguished" on all my slide decks.
