Hello fellow academics and teachers!

Have you used one of my publications, or digital projects like the Real Face of White Australia, in your teaching (since 2020)?

If so, I would love to hear how you've used my work and how students have responded – and see your unit / course outline, too!

A lovely story about one of our many happy UTAS Family History graduates!

With our 10 year anniversary of the Diploma of Family History coming up in 2026, we’ve had more than 2500 graduates – the majority of whom are older women returning to study after many years, or studying at university for the first time.

I did a fun work thing this weekend that reminded me of the me I was before long COVID. Nothing I enjoy more than helping good people make sense of the complicated lives of their ancestors – in this case, an early mixed Chinese-Irish-English Tasmanian family. #ChinOzHist #FamilyHistory #genealogy

The Tiger’s Mouth

In my latest blog post, I issue a word of warning to family historians who might be relying on a family tree from Ancestry.com for information about their ancestor’s Chinese origins.

So you think your ancestor might come from Shunde?

Over the past few years, I’ve been contacted by a number of family historians who believe that their Chinese ancestor came from Shunde, Guangdong. While this is entirely possible, this post i…
