@toor @sysop408 a good portion of the traffic could probably be scrapers/bots that were making unauthenticated http calls, and are now continuously retrying on all failed calls. I wouldn't add a backoff for retries if I didn't care about Twitter's health either.

If only Twitter could vend out their own clients baked with a proper retry implementation that directly call the APIs with an auth token...
