I make things (mostly digital) and climb things (mostly indoors). I'm fascinated with single-tasking and perma-computing, so you might find me working on an Apple II when I'm not planning a climbing trip. I mostly have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm having fun!

Every two weeks, @ubidefeo and I get together to #nerd out over our latest #projects and the #tech we're excited about. Usually it is an intimate 1:1 event, but we've decided to open it up for others to join, starting with the #unboxing and assembly of the #ClockworkPi #uConsole β€” my favourite #gadget of 2023. We've dusted off the #OBS setup and will be going #live this Sunday β€” would love it if you could join us and boost this message to spread awareness! βœ¨πŸ’™βœ¨πŸ’—βœ¨

It's that time again! Tonight from 7-9 Eastern is the A2 Retro Tech meetup, hosted by @AHA and me!

We'll be doing retro storage solutions and filesystems tonight, so pull out your FloppyEmu, warm up your KyroFlux, and get ready to press play on those tape drives!

All are welcome! https://a2retrotech.com/

AHA is so close, but so is 2023! Our fundraising goal is just $400 away. Can you help us reach it? https://rhino.li/holiday-fundraiser
Shout out to the underrated hacker power couple, Razor and Blade.

Just three days to go and $900 of matching funds available. Please help us bring making to more and more people in the new year by donating to our year end fundraiser. https://www.gofundme.com/f/all-hands-active-2022-holiday-fundraiser
This is a very hot take and also not a new one but here we go: the goal of a properly functioning software engineer is to obviate themselves, not by solving the customer's specific problems but by blurring the line between using a computer and programming one to the point where users can solve their own problems.

You know how embarrassed you feel, sitting next to the tourists who want exactly what they had at home but with better weather? Those special people who call themselves "expats" and complain about the "foreigners" that happen to be the actual residents of the country they're squatting in?

Let's not bring that energy to the fedi.

I am once again asking you to stop using LastPass. The company has a history of security issues dating back years, and has yet to make holistic security improvements β€” or heck even investigate incidents properly.

Good alternatives:

- 1Password is my #1 rec, best for most use cases
- Bitwarden if you want open source
- KeePassXC if you want local vaults and open source
- I hear ok things about Dashlane but don’t know a ton

We are working diligently to understand the scope of the incident and identify what specific information has been accessed.
