The Order of the Perpetually Tired
Opinionated and sarcastic, but I have a cute dog, so people tend to tolerate me. I also laugh when the rich get eaten, so do us both a favor and preemptively block or mute me instead of getting preachy and self-righteous if it bothers you.

Meta, having renamed itself Meta and spending billions on it, is shutting down its metaverse VR platform. https://www.theshortcut.com/p/meta-is-shutting-down-horizon-worlds-vr-despite-investing-billions-into-the-metaverse
This is a comprehensive legal defeat for Elon Musk’s DOGE lackeys, the self-proclaimed USAGM ‘deputy CEO’ Kari Lake and others in the Trump administration who sought to eviscerate the Voice of America. If USAGM complies there is almost certainly a battle imminent on whether the editorial firewall will be respected, which prohibits partisan skewing of VOA’s journalism.
🚨🚨Judge Lamberth orders USAGM, by March 23, to bring back all 1,042 VOA employees, who have been on paid admin leave for a year and resume full broadcasting. The court also rules all the actions Kari Lake took to reduce US international broadcasting to a supposed “statutory minimum” are vacated.

Any journalists want to write an article about all the environmental costs of the more than 10,000 Starlinks that are now in orbit? All I'm seeing are breathless articles mindlessly worshiping That Awful Billionaire for crossing the 10,000 satellite mark.

Every single one of those will come down in an uncontrolled reentry. That's a lot of metal in the atmosphere, and a lot of dice-rolling to see if any more pieces will make it to the ground.

SpaceX is truly awful.

The Onion is one of the things keeping me alive.

My unscientific, inexpert, underinformed gut analysis here is that the US has been in recession in any meaningful sense for about a year now, but there’s a few dozen billionaires playing ping-pong with each other’s money and the way we measure growth mistakes that for value creation.

95% of people are idiots.

I'm glad I'm in the other 15%.
