@ErgonWolf boycott/divest/sanction is not within any realistic scope for the future, but the threat of it seems to be enough to trigger the police escalation that keeps protestors on the front pages in the unfriendly news cycle. our corporate media has worked the same way since MLK: well-reasoned explanations are ignored, slight mistakes are vilified, but getting firehosed is a spectacle the press can't ignore. protestors have to sit just near enough to the front of the bus to get brutalized, but not so near that they can be vilified. they have decided that university divestment is that row of seats.

I don't think the consequences in the impossible scenario in which it is implemented factor into their thinking; although if it did I'd be happier with them. Hardly anyone outside the middle east actually wants Israel to collapse and be taken over by something like the Taliban...
