Okay that went way better than expected - not sure if mom has finally had some time to think more about this or if dad talked to her about it since our last discussion but she was much quicker to understand and there was no attempt to press-gang us into unsafe travel plans for I think the first time since the pandemic started, so - progress! Calling that a win today
Anyway to distract myself I replaced the casing on my car's key fob and it works so I'm proud of me for that at least, I guess? (b^_^)b
Waiting on a call from my folks about the holidays where I get to remind my mother that, yes, we're still in a pandemic and, yes, that means we won't be getting on a plane during the holiday rush and no, the "magic of Christmas" does not protect against a virus that could cause my partner and I long-term disability and having to forcefully remind myself that this is a woman with a genius-level intellect and a curious mind that this seemingly obvious fact just CANNOT penetrate for some reason >_<
