Learning about APIs, one day at a time. Vancouver.
@reece Try being in your 40s! Doesn't get any easier, even if you have similar hobbies.
@reece Can it actually be done in Vancouver where there are multiple versions of trains with doors at different locations? I think I saw a whole bunch of gates in Hawaii, so maybe it can.
@reece @TechConnectify I am definitely a convert as a result of that video. AND IT WORKS SO DAMN WELL.
@timbray It would have been nice if they all exited to something like a municipalities-across-canada-mastadon-instance. I fear that if they go to Bluesky, eventually, it will turn into a version of twitter that will eventually just become toxic and bot-filled.
@timbray The results probably would have been similar had there been a larger turnout... but 67k out of 450k total voters... is abysmal to me. I hope our federal elections will have a much higher turnout than last time.
@SallyStrange Okay. I'd ask to enlighten me about what is rude, but I think it is best to say thanks for your feedback and move on. Please enjoy life.

@SallyStrange One, why the rough language? Two, what about the Acela says it runs at 250mph? Three, from the wikipedia page:
The high-speed operation occurs mostly along the 226-mile (364 km) route from Pennsylvania Station in New York City to Union Station in Washington, D.C., with a fastest scheduled time of 2 hours and 45 minutes and an average speed of 82 miles per hour (132 km/h), including time spent at intermediate stops.

Four: what was your point again? Which part is incorrect?

@seachanger Let's say I am sceptical of the numbers they are aspiring to. I hope they make progress on this, but I highly doubt they can build trainsets and tracks that can run at 400km/hr. Does not exist as a commercial entity anywhere. And no one (outside of maglev) is trying to hit those speeds. If they can run a train at 150ish km/hr even, that would make driving less attractive.
@seachanger
Outside of maglev, there is no train that operates that fast. 300 to 350km/hr is about as fast as anything I know of runs (so about 200mph on the top end?). Would be interesting to see, but given that everything North of the Canadian border is freight oriented and not electrified, this will probably never become reality sadly.
Also, given the geography the trains would need to run though, highly unlikely they can build any tracks that will sustain such speeds.
@timbray Very different results from CloudFlare vs fast.com vs speedtest. Two say 35 down, CF says 75 down.
