@stevenray aye, each drone is transmitting a unique id.
@stevenray aye, each drone (should) have a unique ID.

How common are drones (UAV, UAS) in urban environments?

Pretty common.

Here's a map showing drone detections in my neighborhood (Ocean Beach / Outer Sunset, San Francisco, CA USA) for the past ~2 weeks [since December 1 of this year (2024)].

Each dot represents a detection, and there are more than 20 unique drones pictured on this map.

I'm two weeks into owning my first 3D printer, a Bambu P1S, and I've already bought a companion X1C. That's how much I love this thing.

@coderanger @andrew I'm not sure what EMF is, but I'm guessing it's a planned event/festival. I'm usually on the EMS field response side of the house, but in the instances where we've had to stand up dispatch ourselves, and I've had say in the matter, I've used Resgrid. They have extremely reasonable monthly plans, and an API! They're also VFD's so give them all the support you can.

Otherwise, I've been forced into many of the same systems you've probably also experienced, from home grown to "Click here to contact sales" level pricing. They're never exactly what you want, or too much of what you don't want, and ultimately whatever works for you is what's best. I've handled 1M+ events with Apple Notes (https://ampledata.org/san_francisco_pride_2013.html ) , Post-Its, White Boards, and paper & pen.

Of course, there's always the tried and true shared Google Sheets!

@encthenet @amy But, knowing that I knew a little bit about WebDAV, and knowing that even the ancient version of Windows+IE on the school computers supported it, I managed to get my home server to spin up a webdav share that I could mount at school. From there I could skip the dumb floppy, and work on school-work at home, and other work at school, or whenever and wherever I wanted.

That was my WebDAV opus. Unfortunately never had a chance to use it again after that, except for a few experiments with Thunderbird.

@encthenet @amy In the class, we had to save off all of our classwork to 3.5" disks, and most classroom had to be done in-class because few people had full MS Office licenses at home.
@encthenet @amy Funny WebDAV story. Back after the first dot-bomb in the early 2000s I went back to my home town and started taking community college courses. One of the pre-requisite courses was "Business Applications", aka "Microsoft Office 101". It was open, not full, and a pre-requisite, so I thought "Sure, lets get it out of the way, I wouldn't mind learning Access..." ...
