About to start migration over to vis.social... taking you all along for the ride, see you on the other side 💚
Got a cheap USB microscope to look at some samples "fossicked" (gathered from mine waste) from Great Wheal Charlotte, closed in 1840, situated on the cliffs near St Agnes (https://www.mindat.org/loc-210320.html). Not sure, but my best guess is that this might be Sphalerite - a semiconductor (when pure) and zinc ore. This image is a mosaic as this (£25) microscope can only do 640x480 resolution otherwise. #Fossicking #Minerals #Gemstone #Cornwall #Semiconductors #Mining

A friend of mine recently burned out on maintaining open-source software and communities, and had been half-joking for a while that they wanted a sassy license to the effect of "I release this code for free, take it or leave it, or go do it yourself".

Tonight I wrote that license for and with him. Please enjoy the "Fork Off" Public License, v0.9: https://github.com/klardotsh/fork-off-public-license

(I'll tag a v1.0 after any feedback y'all might have to clarify things or make it funnier. Forking it is also of course ok.)

Also spotted first 'I ❤️ nuance' bumper sticker in the wild, which I think comes from the fabulous Seamas Carey whose brilliant podcast 'the reason why' is well worth a listen for anyone who wants to understand Cornwall's complex social issues a bit better https://seamascareymusic.com/the-reason-why

How has anyone successfully dealt with a tone policer? Like what can you actually do when it's happening to you repeatedly from one person, in a work context, only ever in group settings?
Last pic didn't show up when posted, so no image description, but it is the view from the shed window where am holed up because the rainclouds burst dramatically. Nothing beats sheds in the rain.
Finally got a proper allotment day, pinkest chard, big fat fennel with happy broad beans coming up that miraculously the slugs have left completely alone, and the biggest Jerusalem artichoke ever. All no dig, no herbicides/pesticides/artificial fertilisers (frogs and manure do those jobs nicely).
Cute seeing people earnestly posting their wordle results on the birdsite, like it's the early 2022s.
If you were working with a research team that won't use Zotero or any other open source referencing software, and you were making something for users whose institutions block google sheets, where would you host a reference list that needs regular updating by multiple people?
