How does the feed work here? Why am I seeing stuff from people I don't follow? (maybe I've followed some hashtags, is that possible? how do I remove them?)

hi! Vicky, was surprised laid off from work and so if you were sitting on the fence about supporting CAW, now is the time!! 🐦‍⬛
the upside to this happening is that Vicky is a brilliant (and funny!) thinker and writer -- someone who we need right now more than ever -- and this will free up her time to do more writing for CAW!! 🐦‍⬛

PLS BOOST!!!

Really neat quote from Kropotkin: "Society itself is responsible for the anti-social deeds perpetrated in its midst, and that no punishment, no prisons and no hangmen can diminish the numbers of such deeds; nothing short of a re-organization of society itself"

How not to report on Eastern Congo

Western media coverage of the DRC conflict is riddled with inaccuracies, oversimplifications, and racial bias—reinforcing dangerous narratives rather than informing the world.

Öcalan’s Statement and the Future of the PKK w/ Dîlan

On February 27, Abdullah Öcalan urged the PKK to cease hostilities against Turkey, advocating for a legal framework to secure Kurdish rights. Dîlan and hosts discuss the implications of this statem…

The Fire These Times
Kropotkin:
"The anarchists consider the wage-system and capitalist production altogether as an obstacle to progress. But they point out also that the state was, and continues to be, the chief instrument for permitting the few to monopolize the land, and the capitalists to appropriate for themselves a quite disproportionate share of the yearly accumulated surplus of production. Consequently, while combating the present monopolization of land, and capitalism altogether, the anarchists combat with the same energy the state, as the main support of that system. Not this or that special form, but the state altogether, whether it be a monarchy or even a republic governed by means of the referendum."

"If, it is contended, society were organized on these principles, man would not be limited in the free exercise of his powers in productive work by a capitalist monopoly, maintained by the state; nor would he be limited in the exercise of his will by a fear of punishment, or by obedience towards individuals or metaphysical entities, which both lead to depression of initiative and servility of mind. He would be guided in his actions by his own understanding, which necessarily would bear the impression of a free action and reaction between his own self and the ethical conceptions of his surroundings. Man would thus be enabled to obtain the full development of all his faculties, intellectual, artistic and moral, without being hampered by overwork for the monopolists, or by the servility and inertia of mind of the great number. He would thus be able to reach full individualization, which is not possible either under the present system ofindividualism, or under any system of state socialism in the so-called Volkstaat (popular state)."
Kropotkin on anarchism:
"harmony in such a society being obtained, not by submission to law, or by obedience to any authority, but by free agreements concluded between the various groups, territorial and professional, freely constituted for the sake of production and consumption, as also for the satisfaction of the infinite variety of needs and aspirations (...) In a society developed on these lines, the voluntary associations which already now begin to cover all the fields of human activity would take a still greater extension so as to substitute themselves for the state in all its functions. They would represent an interwoven network, composed of an infinite variety of groups and federations of all sizes and degrees, local, regional, national and international temporary or more or less permanent – for all possible purposes: production, consumption and exchange, communications, sanitary arrangements, education, mutual protection, defence of the territory, and so on; and, on the other side, for the satisfaction of an ever-increasing number of scientific, artistic, literary and sociable needs."

More specifically, my main areas of interest + online communities/mutuals + seeking sources/info/etc: a) politics/anarchism/activism/antifascism/critical theory/anti-colonialism/feminism/environmentalism/etc, b) dataviz and information design, datajournalism, OSINT, investigative journalism, c) football (soccer) and Man Utd stuff (fans and friends, news, data and tactical analysis, etc), d) finding good/solid perspectives and sources from around the world.

Twitter used to be really good for all of them, now it's obviously a crappy mess but still the main place for c) and there are still significant elements (some sources, people, orgs, etc I like; but there's also been a significant exodus - the exception for that is "c") for a), b) (esp. OSINT) and d) (some people in/from the Global South are still mainly on twitter, moreover the geographic breadth/coverage of Mastodon seems more limited to me compared to other sites)

Bluesky has exploded, there's now a lot of a), b) and d), and even some c) ppl have migrated (but majority still on twitter). Notably for me, since it's also what I do for work, the dataviz and related circles have joined Bsky massively in recent weeks.

Mastodon is for me strongest for a), less so for the others (ofc not saying there's nothing, just not same extent as elsewhere or as what I'd like)

Linkedin is weird and kind of a pain in the ass (so fucking corporate + the superficial and alienating performativity of professional politeness and self-promotion) but there's a lot of opportunities for networking + it's strong in terms of b).

As sb with similar daily struggles as ADHD because of my disability (narcolepsy), it's frustrating/exhausting to keep up... I wish only one website/platform combined evrth lol but it's probably not happening anytime soon
