Plato: The measure of a man is what he does with power.

curecovidph and @nagkaisa Coalition have both been asking why the payment of benefits of COVID-19 health frontliners is severely delayed. Even DOH OIC Vergeire said they needed billions to settle the obligations.

Second, why is there a 150B+ allocation for local infrastructure projects in the budget of DPWH despite the implementation of the Madanas-Garcia Ruling?

The amount is over and on top of the 820B NTA of LGUs. Didn’t the national gov’t say the fiscal space is already tight?

For instance, why was it more important for the Exectuive branch to pump up the Pension and Gratuity Fund and the Miscellaneous and Personnel Benefit Fund? That is, why is it more important to pay pension arrearages + salary increase of gov’t workers over unpaid benefits of HCWs?

Many questions were raised about specific allocations especially programs that suffered cuts and those that received avalanches in funding.

Those are good ones, but it’s about time to frame our critique of the budget in the broader context of the economy and state politics.

These are the trade-offs we found in our analysis of the 2023 NEP.

It would have been reasonable to ask why these choices were made in favor of many others.

Given our current economic situation and the needs of various sectors, why was the budget structured this way?

Happy 4th BEK 2.0!
@Caliban64 I understand this, studied this even. But my post comes fr a claim of a certain political figure who is now a human right's denier just to protect someone. He is supposed to be a public servant, protecting his constituents' rights. And here he goes qualifying that human rights is a Western idea.
Human rights...not just a Western idea. Nor is it exclusive to a certain group or country. Denying believing in human rights bec it's a Western idea? Bull-hit! You are doing this to protect someone. You are betraying your country in the process. SHAME ON YOU!!!

@teta_limcangco I really am hoping we win this battle because the future looks gloomy if we don't. Next generation would be living on a bed of lies and disinformation coupled with bad manners and uncouth behavior.
@teta_limcangco Maybe it's just me but there's this weariness in our spirit because we fought this battle 36 years ago. We thought we have done our part, fighting for our freedom and democracy. I know, when needed, I'd fight again. But for now, I need to feel the tiredness in my bones, in my mind, in my heart. On how a generation of trolls undermined all we have fought for, sacrificed for and overcame fear for. Sinayang nila.
In my lifetime, witnessed the fall of a dictator, end of ML, no more Berlin Wall, USSR is no more, death of a Pope I thought would be there forever, death of a Queen, a 7.8 earthquake, eruption of a volcano ppl thought was extinct, mother-son being Pres of a country 18 yrs. apart and morals eroding, manners and etiquette out the window and massive cheating that allowed the tyrant's son to be pres. Such a twisted world.
