@atpfm so weird listening to @caseyliss talking about his travel Internet woes while my family along with 90 million other Iranians have been put under a total digital blackout for over 10 days. I’ve only been able to contact them once for about 20 seconds. Found someone working on a cargo ship passing through Persian gulf he called me on WhatsApp while calling my mom from another phone that had cell signal from nearby Iranian island and put us both on speaker.

@siracusa another thing not many people consider when comparing Apple to consoles: consoles are mostly sold at near cost price. The actual business IS the distribution. Apple gets to charge $2k for a SSD upgrade partly because of the apps that have made their ecosystem so compelling. They are extorting both users and developers.
@atpfm writing in per @caseyliss’s request to agree thab John is indeed very, very wrong about the iPhone hype. I was a teenager living in a small city in Iran. We had only just got the ADSL upgrade from dial up and didn’t even know what a Mac was. Yet all of my school friends were talking about the “fish touch phone” even though we knew we wouldn’t be seeing one in person any time soon. So I can say for a fact the hype train had truly travelled globally.
