Mt. Elbert Summit Hike
- 12,000 ft
- No gear; a wooden stick, plastic bag over socks
I initially regretted not reaching the top, but things just weren’t working out for me. I could have made it with a wooden stick and no snowshoes, but it was already 2 PM, and I still had 2,500 feet left to climb. My main concern was the return trip—my pace was slow due to gear issues, and my toes were already wet and freezing.
In the end, I felt it was the right decision to turn around.
