@yabellini@fosstodon has movedThe science and open source ecosystem communities carry out vital work. Many are non-profit organizations that depend on grants to continue existing because although what they do is provided at no cost, being able to do what they do does cost.
The problem is that when sponsors move on to finance other issues (very few give you money to continue doing what you were doing), you have to look for that funding elsewhere; one of the ways is to charge for services.

The direct impact is that those who have the money to pay become those who can access the benefits of the community, and those who don't are left out again.
It makes me deeply sad. It makes me angry.
And it reinforces the need for the voices of those who are not usually part of it to be able to be at the tables where decisions are made.

#PositConf2023 = Posit's (formerly RStudio) annual user conference, which will have a lot of info about R (#rstats) and Python as well as Posit 📦s and products.
If you're not interested in PositConf2023, Mastodon gives you an easy way to filter out hashtags from your feed. In the Web interface, click on the preferences gear icon, scroll down to Filters in the left nav, click Add new filter, fill in the details, and save it.
