Case achieved! So cute. Next project is Node # 2, solar, on the roof, with a more powerful antenna. #meshtastic

Hundreds of thousands of Computers won't be able to upgrade to Windows 11, but that shouldn't make them eWaste.

Kudos to the @kde team for this amazing initiative!

End of 10

Just got my first #meshtastic node ✨ Waiting on my case to 3D print at the library and for my battery to arrive later today. My stuff cost about $40 all in.

If you don't know what this is, it's essentially text-based communication using long range radios (the old 3G band). Decentralized, can be totally encrypted. Want to text your friends without someone reading? Want to stay in touch in emergencies? Want to build fallbacks in case the regular internet stops working like it should? Me too! https://meshtastic.org/

Really hoping to find other #rva folks so we can build a community mesh.

But the P2P chat thing I was trying to remember is https://cabal.chat/ and it looks alive!

In response to my own dang question, I found this list. I'm guessing quite a few of these are deprecated. https://github.com/croqaz/awesome-decentralized?tab=readme-ov-file

What are folks' favorite decentralized web tools lately, outside of fediverse? I remember being excited about Beaker Browser a while back, and another peer to peer chat tool I can't remember.

@aejolene

Same! Again, I suspect we need more serious institutional support.

It would be good to get some #digitalrepository folks to help organize a more robust #dataresecue campaign.

@aejolene

I think we need some more coordinated guidance and support from the digital library community. Last time I used the Internet Archive and now their services have been hit hard by a major cyber-attack.

We could also use some international #DataRescue help.

Thinking of this as I just archived the USGS Climate Adaptation pages you shared @josh
Are US folks planning #DataRescue projects before January?
