@neohysteria @admin oh! That's very odd then because as you can see, there's no blocks whatsoever on our end.

Can you link me an example post where the media isn't loading on the Blorbo side?

Has the media issue ALWAYS been an issue or did the problem started more recently?

Do let me know what your admin finds on their side as far as domain blocks for Blorbo.social go!

@neohysteria @admin Okay, from our side we aren't imposing any limitations on the domain, however it does look like there's some kind of communication issue between the aforementioned server and ours.

I see you mention the instance limited media from us. Can your instance admin double check what blocks are in place? If the instance ONLY rejects media, I think there shouldn't be any communication failures (for example, we reject media from aethy but we don't have any errors logging for them).

Attached is a screenshot of the basic summary of the instance from blorbo's POV. Feel free to share it with your instance admin, it's nothing sensitive.

@neohysteria @admin Version shouldn't matter, but that's good info to have!

We'll take a look and let you know what we find.

@neohysteria @admin hi! Please provide the domain for the instance and we'll take a look. Can you also let me know what software is being run? Is it just Mastodon or something else.

By default, any instance should be able to federate with us UNLESS it's a domain we know to be violating our rules (such as permitting hate speech) or being poorly moderated, etc. Can't imagine we'll need you to verify anything (though we certainly wouldn't complain about a cute dog pic)!

However, that doesn't mean there won't be technical issues at times, particularly if it's not a Mastodon <-> Mastodon connection.

Hi everyone! We're aware of the new wave of "account verification" spambots. Please DO continue to report these accounts!

Thank you all so much!

@fellofreak @admin Hi! We don't really have an official process for adding new emojis, but I don't see a reason we can't add this one. Is there a particular name you want it to have?

While we don't often have to reach out this way, I recommend double checking this setting periodically until the update rolls out! I've known a couple people who didn't realize this setting was enabled by default, and thusly didn't realize anyone was trying to message them privately.

Honestly, it's probably worth checking what's getting filtered periodically regardless of this admin-specific update in case a reply from someone you DO want to talk to gets filtered by accident!

There is currently an issue in Mastodon that means new users will not be notified of private messages from their admin/mods by default  A fix has already been implemented, but something to be aware of until it is released. This is due to the notification setting "Unsolicited private mentions" defaulting to "Filtered", which is a reasonable general default, but shouldn't apply to your own local admins and mods trying to contact you privately. #MastoAdmin

@rotten hello again! This is a bit of a late reply, but I figured out what happened with my friend's account: Apparently he opted back out a few days after I searched him on the fediverse bc he was trying to make a followers only post and threads would not let him bc he had the fediverse thing enabled. So mystery solved! I figured since I was asking him for my own curiosity that I'd follow up here too lol

I DO think probably the majority of opted in accounts were/are brands though bc he mentioned that I think fedi stuff is labeled as a beta feature? So probably most users are like "idk what that is and IDC" or they get annoyed with the privacy controls like my friend did.

@rotten I think you're right about the kind of accounts ppl were following, especially with your additional data point (thank you!).

My friend is actually on Threads and told me that basically you have to opt in to the fediverse? I have no idea if all accounts were offered that option though. If you want to check, for science, his handle is @/[email protected].

It seems to be weird on the threads side though, like if you have followers from the fediverse it doesn't list the handles I think on your followers list unless you go looking for that information?

It's really weird though if new posts weren't loading in after someone was followed though?? This whole threads connection just seems very janky the more I hear about it lol.

Anyway yeah when I saw that only 9 ppl here were following ANYONE on threads, I was like "....... Ok, this really doesn't seem like it'll be a huge loss, and I suspect anyone who was following a threads account will have alternatives and not really care about losing THIS way of following them."

@spillingdown honestly I have no idea what average stats are either for something like this, but I CAN show you mastodon(.)social's stats from our admin panel for comparison!

I was also curious about what the followed accounts were, but there's no way to get that info from the admin panel, nor can you see WHO on Blorbo is following a threads user. Honestly, the latter is probably a good thing for privacy's sake, but I would've liked to know what the threads accounts were! Not because it matters WHO specifically was being followed, but were people following artists? News accounts like the Pokemon one you mentioned? Friends who just aren't on the fediverse??

Ultimately I don't think it would've swayed our decision, but I can't help but be curious!
