We will be taking down app.southampton.social in 3 months (Mid-November 2025), This is due to a number of reasons one of them being no use for the instance, I will keep the domain for some time and we can always revisit creating a southampton.social instance even as a Lemmy or Mbin one in the future.

The Long Stuff;
What is Bikersgo.social doing for the UK Online Safety Act to protect people?

We are doing things as normal we are muting (not blocking) NSFW content to stop it from showing up in the Global Feed, This protects anyone from seeing explicit content but doesn't stop people from going out of there way to view it, follow it and interact with it.

As our instance is a Bikers Instance we deal with mostly over 18 year olds with some acceptations such as 16 - 17 year olds being able to get provisional licenses and getting a lower CC moped or motorbike in the UK so really a 16+ Instance.

This new UK Law is a huge breach of trust, can & will cause data issues in the future. Due to this we will not be ID-ing anyone because we believe there is no true safe way of doing it on the Internet. The easiest way to show us you are of age is showing off your Motorbikes and the cool things you do!!

With the new UK Gov Changes to NSFW content as well as how you need to Verify your ID to use lots of sites, I will make it clear that;
1. The Fediverse is a safe place and can not and will not force people to verify there ID
2. Because most instances don't count as 'catagroy 1' it means we do not need to verify IDs unless we have thousands of users (internal)
3. They can't stop all the instances, There are thousands of instances and can not reinforce this.

I highly suggest moving your friends and family over to the Fediverse

Questioning about if it is worth keeping app.southampton.social online at all?

It seems not many people use it including me @sam who is meant to be running it as an admin. It might be time to focus on bikersgo.social more than this instance.

Maybe I could revisit the domain in the future, I love the thought of running a Southampton based instance but without active advertisement for both domains through physical ads (what would be expensive with two domains) it doesn't seem worth running both.

If you use app.southampton.social feel free to put your thoughts on it, and I'll make sure to give plenty of notice through this account if we where to close doors.
