@runasand it’s a huge privacy issue. Lots of states have to put in place programs for domestic violence/stalking survivors that allow them to register using what amounts to a state-run PO Box. Even when it’s not easily public, it’s semi public if youve got the time and money. Politically impossible to change too because the legislators who make the rules also pay the consultants who rely on that data for voter targeting/outreach.
