The other reason to disable message previews: if the cops confiscate your phone, they can just see notifications as they come in right on the home screen. That doesn't even require a forensic search of the device.

FYI - In the Prairieland case, iOS notifications revealed the contents of some Signal messages. This only applied to incoming messages, not outgoing ones.

Yet another reason to disable notification previews in Signal messages.

Apple's "hide my email" feature is great if you want to prevent tech companies from linking your identity across accounts.

But it won't help you if Apple gets a warrant to turn over you data to the cops.

This is true of any email alias service. If you need anonymity, make a separate account.

Create a memorable, strong passphrase to use with your password manager, computer, etc.

If you can only take one step from list, fully power off your phone, laptop, and other devices before entering the airport (especially the security checkpoints).

Your data is full encrypted when the phone is off before you unlock it the first time.
